Jawaharlal Nehru, also regarded as “pandit Nehru” or lovingly remembered as chacha Nehru by kids was one of the biggest names in India’s struggle of complete independence in the 1900’s and the most pivotal political figure in the post-independence era of the country. He too abided by Mahatma Gandhi’s motto of peace and non-violence and served the country selflessly.
He was born in the North-Western province of India and served the country for almost 74 years. His endless contribution to the field of education and development in India is what led to the rise of institutes like IIT, IIM and other prestigious educational centers. He was also the first prime minister of Independent India and held the office for almost 17 years where he was succeeded by Gulzarilal Nanda.
He along with his wife Kamala Nehru were blessed with a girl child named Indira Gandhi who later on went to be the Prime Minister of India as well and took the country to even higher pedestal. His selfless service to the nation for such a long running time earned him the accolade of Bharat Ratna in 1955.
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s struggle for India’s freedom along with Mahatma Gandhi was one of the silver linings of Indian national congress’s pre-independence existence and he took the party beliefs and moulded them in a new shape under the democratic setup of the Indian republic. His affinity to kids is fondly celebrated in the name children’s day every year.
